Be The Mirror
Life provides wobbly moments. Of that we can be sure. Even those who have learned to overcome them with ease will recognise them. They are the times we have to dig a little deeper to find the inner resource to take the next step with wisdom.
For those of us still learning to trust our inner resources, it is likely to be the time we reach out to someone we trust. And what a blessing it is when we find someone who supports us to return to a place of stability, who doesn’t collude, but gently and wisely reminds us who we are.
This poem is a thank you to the people who have been here for me in those moments. It’s filled with personal hidden messages that only they will recognise, and yet those messages are also life metaphors others will understand. So it is my gift to you, as a reminder that it is okay to wobble and reach out to someone who can hold a mirror – ‘crystal clear’ – when you do.
What does it take to be me,
The real me that knows my worth,
My wisdom, my inner light?
What does it take, when I receive the knocks,
To find a way to stand up once again,
Stronger than before?
What does it take to keep putting
One foot in front of the other,
To question the critics,
To dig deep into my inner truth?
To find the cracks in the clay and reveal
The golden Buddha, the hidden Elsie,
The gift-wrapped gift under the Christmas tree?
Who is it that holds the vision, crystal clear
When my mirror becomes foggy?
Who leads me through the wild sea,
Back to the crackling fire, the hearth, the heart.
Who keeps my foundations strong
When the tower wobbles?
Who is it that reminds me I am not alone,
That there is a team that has my back?
Who is it that holds a mirror, crystal clear
When my own becomes foggy?
It is you, dear ones. You know who you are.
You are the ones that remind me
I am Love, and I am Loved.
Thank you dear friends, my warriors in the storm
Who walk beside me every day.
Thank you from the depths of my heart
For being there when I need you most.
